One in Christ Mission - "That the world may believe" (John 17:21)

VISION         VISION OF CHRIST         MISSION         CORE VALUES

ABOUT US

Todd and Susie OBert What started as a call to prayer with our good friend, Pastor Guy Johnson, led me (Todd) and Susie to start a discipleship group at our church, Harvest Christian Center, in Cantonment, Florida. From there, we were led to believe that we should do some kind of outreach as part of our discipleship class. That led to us joining another church in our church's conference (International Pentecostal Holiness Church or IPHC) in preparing and handing out meals, once per week, to the homeless in Pensacola, Florida. As we got to know some of the people that we were handing out meals to, and praying with, we asked them if they would be interested in having a church service at one of the parks that was a known gathering place for some of the local homeless folks. They expressed an interest in the idea of having church there on Sundays, so then, we began to pray about that also.

Therefore, after around two years after we had started praying in our living room for God's direction, we began having church services at a park in Pensacola. We have many testimonies of God's provision, from the donations that afforded us, financially and otherwise, a trailer, chairs, tables, a sound system, coffee pots, and so on. We had been having services at that park for about two years when the city took over that park to put a tax office there. From there we moved to a different park several blocks away and have been having church services there, up to the present, every Sunday.

We have also had much confirmation from our Lord, God, and Savior that it is His calling, His hand that is upon us, and that it is His will for us to be doing this ministry in sharing and showing the love and the gospel of Jesus Christ. One thing that we have clearly recognized through all of this is that God truly desires for none to perish but that all would come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9), as God sent His only begotten Son, Christ Jesus, to die on a cross for our sins, so that we can then be reconciled back to God, to have a right relationship with Him, to be children of God, and to have eternal life in Him.

Many things along the way have not made much sense to us, but as we continue to know God, trust Him, and honor Him, He continues to bless us with His presence in the bearing much fruit for His glory. As He brings us together to be one in Him, and we shine the light of Christ, so that others may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16), others too then may believe on Christ Jesus and receive Him so that we may be one in Christ to the glory of God, as He continues to build His eternal kingdom.

PREVIOUS POSTING: My wife (Susie) and I (Todd) up to this point in time can only speak of what we have so far, seen and heard. What began for us as a call to prayer, which we've been doing regularly for about a year with another member of our team (Pastor Guy), has led us to believing we are called to plant churches.

We had been praying specifically for God to show us the best way to reach our community in evangelism. I found a book in a thrift store called "Church Planting for a Greater Harvest" by C. Peter Wagner. He stated in the book, "The single most effective evangelistic methodology under heaven is planting new churches." I got another book called, "Planting Missional Churches" by Ed Stetzer and Daniel Im, which stated the exact same thing.

Through much prayer and confirmations of the Lord along the way, this is what we believe we are called to and being led to do: We are being called to be church planters that has a primary focus on discipleship and outreach which will raise up future leaders to do the same thing. Basically what we are being called to do is all of the things that Jesus did and taught to His disciples. Below is our vision statement and overall vision, and our mission statement. There are many details that we don't know yet, but we do wholeheartedly believe that what we have so far is from God, Himself, and though this calling goes way beyond our own aspirations or desires, we know that with God all things are possible and that as we put our trust in Him to determine our steps He will show us, and others, that He indeed is the Lord!
